Class things in Argentina

In no particular order....

Steak - We've already covered them in the blog, but they really have to be seen to be believed. After almost a month here we've still not tired of them and have eaten them the last three nights. Last night's steak was one of the best yet.

Football commentators - Sky should try and get a few of these guys in and there would be no more problems making games seem exciting. They make up their own names for players and call them that for the whole game. Examples: Lampard is "Frankie" or "Francisco", Terry is "El Terrible" or "El Capitan", Wright-Phillips is "El Supersonico", Cristiano Ronaldo is "Ronalditio", van Nistelrooy is just "Ruud", Crespo is "Crepo", Woodgate is "Woody", Zidane is "Harry Potter", Graveson is "Shrek". Everyone knows about the shouting of "GOL" for about 20 seconds after a goal, but there's one guy over here who actually starts playing a bit of music and singing a little song after shouting "GOL". He was commentating on a Wst Ham game and sang a song about "El Negro" after Harewood scored. I'll leave the translation to yereselves on that one. He called Harewood "El Negro" or "Robin Hood" for the rest of the game. Can't wait to see what they come up with for Champions League.

Coche Cama - The quality of buses here is unbelievable. Because of the long distances a lot of the buses travel through the night. It's class because you save on the price of a night's accomodation and with the A/C it's actually more comfortable than most of the hotel rooms we've stayed in. Seats are almost fully reclinable, there are movies on the TV, and there's a waiter who brings around loads of food and wine. It's so good that we almost look forward to the 20 hour bus journeys.

Quilmes Cristal - Possibly the nicest beer I've ever had. It's crisp, refreshing and stronger than most beers at home. It actually gets nicer the more pints of it you drink. And the price is simply sensational - you can get a litre bottle for 6 pesos (about 1.70).

Talent - Villa Gessel was simply the best I've ever seen or heard of, and the rest of the country isn't too shabby either from what we've seen. Rumour has it that Rio is even better.

Showers - In most of the places we've stayed the bathroom is the shower. There's just a shower head somewhere on the wall and a drain somewhere on the bathroom floor. They leave you a little brush so you can push the water towards the drain. In one place the shower head was almost directly above the toilet, allowing you to do two things at once if you were in a bit of a hurry.

Wine - A full bottle of wine can be had with lunch for less than 2 Euro. Once the first bottle is gone, of course, it would be rude to say no to a second at that kind of price. We're now in Mendoza which is the centre of Argentinian wine making so we'll be checking out the local wineries for tastings. There's an outside chance things could get messy.
