Day 2 - The Steak

I won´t bore ye all with a repeat of day one's events - Roy has already given ye all the details ye need. Ye probably heard of full breakfast and trimmings for 4 euro etc. Buenos aires is ridiculously hot and so are its old dolls. Bit like Vegas though with unwanted idiots coming up to you on the street trying to sell you stuff. Still, it's cheaper than i could ever even have imagined. We went for lunch in a brewery type bar that's supposed to be quite expensive but worked out at 5 euro for a huge lunch with glass of wine and dessert included. Nice. Got working on the brewery beers after that (some kind of honey based thing whose middle name was 8.5% and whose Confirmation name was Trouble) and it was fairly inevitable that we'd end up half cut. Afterwards we thought it might be a pleasant idea to go into the poshest wine shop in town for a bit of a tasting after. We were wrong enough as it happens but after and hour of it we still picked up a few bottles for less than you'd pay for double espresso back in Dublin. A bit of take home is the hammer in any language.
To be honest we were both ready for the big pass out back in the hotel room (3 bed for 10 euro each a night - unlucky losers) but even the dogs on the street knew we had to go for a quick bit of steak. We'd been talking about it since we booked so it was time to get down to business. It was all looking rosy after we'd ordered our dishes and a sociable drop of wine. It took ages for the food to arrive though, which was surprising enough considering that when it was eventually served it appeared to us that it they'd barely introduced the beef to the grill. When we saw what they were giving us to eat we realised instantly that we were ed. Think of Miah Platini when they see the Franks warming up every year before the Christmas challenge and you're on the right track). We've all heard the stories about the Argentinian steaks. Forget about the stories. I've seen a few things in my time but never anything like this. The waiter had to cut Roy's steak from the bone and I thought I'd pass out just at the sight of mine. I really wish I had now that I look back on it. Think of a large fillet steak in Ireland multiplied by five. Absolutely delicious for a few bites but after that there were severe meat sweats at no added cost (and no pepper sauce in sight). It took me over an hour and a half to finish the steak even though we ignored all side dishes. Roy headed back to the hotel room after his steak. All I can say is that he put in one of the bravest efforts I've ever seen. I really hopes he makes it through the night. It´s a lot more expensive travelling on your own here.
We were saying earlier that it seems like ages since we touched down in Argentina. It is in a way, and I can't wait to finally get a bit of sleep after that horrendous flight last night. We've picked up a load of tips already about where we should head to for a bit of beach and sun but everything is on hold until after we go see River Plate in the Copa Libertadores tomorrow night. Not a bad forecast here for tomorrow. What about Ireland?
Oh, really. Unlucky.
